How to Submit:
Elements required for submission to be considered:
Query Letter: Tell us about yourself, past publications, social media presence, and anything else you’d like us to know. Please include a paragraph telling us about your book, making sure to include genre and word count. Are there comparable novels to your own that have been published in the past five years? Tell us about them, how are they similar, and how are they different from your own manuscript.
(Note: not having a social media following or past publications is not a deal breaker).
Here’s your checklist for the query letter:
- Who are you? Tell us about you!
- Past publications
- Social media presence
- Genre
- Prospective readership
- Word count
- Three Comp Novels (or books of poetry/short stories)
- Statement that the manuscript is original and not generated by AI*
Synopsis: Please include a synopsis of your book. This is especially important for novels. A synopsis is essentially a “play-by-play” of your story. Your synopsis should reveal your plot structure and let us get to know your characters. It also shows us where your book ends. This is not a marketing piece, but a way for us to evaluate your story. Your synopsis should be no more than 500 words and should highlight main plot points.
Manuscript Sample: We would like to read the first three full chapters of your novel. Please make sure to format your sample correctly according to the below guidelines:
- A title page to include title, author’s name, and word count
- Use 12-point, Times New Roman font
- Double space
- One inch margins on all sides
- Page number and last name should appear in the upper left-hand corner of all pages
- PDF or Word file
Poetry Manuscript Sample:
- Please send ten poems
- Include a title page, author’s name, & word count
- Put the page number and your last name in the upper left-hand corner of all pages
Please note, we do not require a perfectly edited manuscript that is free of typos and errors. However, we do look for manuscript submissions that have been, at minimum, edited to the best of the submitter’s ability. What we look for is to be swept away by your writing and storytelling abilities.
Multiple people will be evaluating each submission and no one person will make decisions during the submission cycle. If you have questions about our submission process, or about a submission you plan on making, please email us. Do not reach out to us via social media.
We receive many manuscripts, so it may take a bit of time to hear back. Please be patient. If we are interested in your query we will ask for your full manuscript. After we evaluate your full manuscript and are interested in publishing your book, we will arrange for a Zoom interview to discuss your manuscript further. During the Zoom interview you will be welcome to ask Wild Ink questions as well.
*AI: Wild Ink Publishing, LLC is concerned with the growing use of AI-generated art and content within the publishing industry. As such, we pledge that none of our designs (cover or social media designs) or content (press releases, blurbs, advertising copies) are completed using Artificial Intelligence. At Wild Ink, we support authors and artists fully, and appreciate the artistic efforts of humans. Because of this stance, Wild Ink will not accept AI-generated content in any form for publication under our traditional contracts or anthologies. While we can’t be certain if an author used AI-generated content, we will be adding this to our contracts moving forward. We will continue to stay on top of the situation as it develops.
