Andrew Hooks
After growing up in California and Nevada, some peripatetic college years, and a stint in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division in North Carolina, Andrew went on to a career in the energy industry. Eventually, he spent 20 years living and working abroad, including in Europe, Africa, and Asia, and in 2018 finally returned to the US, where he currently resides with his wife (of 32 years) in Houston. Eugenesis: Inception is Andrew’s debut novel, and was inspired by his love of storytelling and the tapestry of cultures and experiences he encountered in his travels. In addition to writing, he is a voracious reader, a mentor in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America organization, a lover (and occasional collector) of art, and remains an avid and curious traveler. Andrew is also the proud father of a talented songwriter-singer (Kira) who currently resides in the San Francisco area.

Eugenesis: Inception
In Eugenesis: Inception, a brilliant and complex Maria Guevara and her unborn child are confronted with the horrors of an unresolved past while navigating a near-future world where technology breakthroughs have reawakened a dark vision that now threatens everyone.
Through the pull of a propulsive plot arc and evoking the richly layered milieu of Europe and its history, Eugenesis: Inception explores core contemporary themes of identity vs. heritage and humanity vs. technology while taking the reader on an unexpected and gripping journey.

In this sweeping sequel to ‘Eugenesis: Inception’ set in the Americas, a unique cast of characters comes together in the not-too-distant future to face a widening threat. Having escaped near-death in Europe, Maria Guevara has taken on a new identity to raise her two sons in the sanctuary of the Navajo Nation. Unaware that the sinister organization known as ‘the Council’ has regrouped and is now growing its presence in the Americas, Maria has focused on her new life and her sons.
As adults, Maria’s two sons have become increasingly estranged from one another and, worse, Maria discovers one has unknowingly been caught up in the machinations of the Council. Struggling with how or when to reveal the truth of her life story to her sons, a fateful tragedy involving her youngest son’s family forces Maria’s hand. She realizes that she and her sons can no longer hide and must take action.
In the meantime, the leader of the Navajo Nation – along with leaders from other native and indigenous groups – has sensed the gravity of the rising threat and decided to respond. Peoples oppressed by centuries of colonialism and racial animus now join the struggle against what could ultimately mean extinction.
The Second Becoming reveals a vision of the very real peril of power and advanced technology being used in service of a malevolent ideology, and the redemptive struggle of a family and the threatened communities around them who finally come together to fight back.
